When you start out as an accommodation provider, lots of advisors share with you the ‘must do’ tips and tricks to ensure you maximise bookings.  One thing that always appears on that list is the provision of hut tubs.  We are told they have become a standard and expected luxury in self-catering accommodation.

We have considered and actively chosen to not offer hot tubs at Little Seed Field.  Not only is their energy consumption enormous, the noise impact significant and the cleaning process fairly disgusting, they can also have a huge impact on the environment in other ways.
Hot tubs, when managed properly, require the water to be changed after each visit – sometimes our cabins have 2 or 3 turnovers in a week which would mean that water is emptied, refilled and heated multiple times in a week.

The water in hot tubs must be treated, by law, with a significant list of chemicals including bromine and chlorine – when released into groundwater these chemicals affect ecosystems, pollute water and harm wildlife (and they are probably not great for human skin).

The production and disposal of hot tubs, which are often made from plastics and synthetic materials, contribute to environmental degradation. Once they reach the end of their life there is no sound way of disposing of them without significant parts being sent to landfill.

At Little Seed Field we believe the natural world around us – nature and landscapes by day, stars and sounds by night – provides the most amazing, romantic, intriguing entertainment and that by having hot tubs, we would be taking all the opportunity for our guests to experience that, away.
